Australian Taxation Office
Everything you want to know (or maybe don't want to know!) about most tax issues including GST and registering for GST. Tip: Check with your accountant before filling in any forms.

Australian Immigration & Citizenry Law Advisors. A great resource for info on business immigration requirements and subsequent processing.
ASIC
The Australian Securities and Investments Commission enforces company and financial services laws to protect consumers, investors and creditors. Has a separate consumer section FIDO, accessible through the same site. Also lets you do a free company name search.

Operates under a direct mandate from the Premier's office. Has an excellent local office which is focused on local business development assistance. Accesses State Government resources and also well worth telephoning with almost any kind of local business related enquiry. Federal Government site that provides business with a wide range of services and information about start-up, taxation, licensing and legislation, as well as significant transactions such as taxation compliance and license applications.

Intellectual Property Australia. Federal Government organisation providing legal information and registration material for trademarks, patents. Allows you to search for trademarks and business names and to register on-line. It used to take days to search trademarks and it cost lots of money: now it takes minutes and is free!
Office of Fair Trading
Here's where you can register business names and ABN's (Australian Business Numbers) registrations locally. ABN's are mandatory for any Australian business regardless of size or corporate structure. Has a helpful, central local office in Maroochydore on 13 1304.
Maroochy Shire Council
Great local site with links to business and tourist groups and all the usual Council departments. Tourism Maroochy is a great link with very good pictures and overviews of the area. Ph 5475 8501
Maroochydore Chamber of Commerce
Extremely active in networking and business support. Independently staffed with pro-active people. Speak to Melinda, the manager on 5443 5661
Noosa Council
Noosa Council's main site and has excellent, equivalent information about this part of the region. Ph 5449 5200
Caloundra City Council
Same thing for the southern end of the region. Also has a very pro-active business development unit. Ph 5420 8200
Sunshine Coast Area Consultative Committee
Again, a small business support unit but SCACC is funded by the Federal Government. Ph 5479 5099
